SWEET BELGIUM is a geometric cabinet in which form is given to the term ‘stacking’. The stacked technique employed in SWEET BELGIUM is somewhat denied by the two red-painted doors which, on being confronted with the piece for the first time, barely give one any indication that they can be opened as doors. Handles are utterly absent – the ‘signature function’ of the piece is almost nonexistent. As happens quite frequently in my work, the spectator is intentionally wrong-footed… .
